One of the greatest strengths of the Bible and Contemporary World programme is its diverse and international learning community. Our students come from a wide range of professional, academic, and ecclesial backgrounds, bringing rich perspectives to discussions of the Bible, theology, and contemporary life.
While many students are actively involved in Christian ministry or leadership, only around one-third are ordained clergy. Most combine their studies with full-time employment, while others are retired or returning to higher education after a number of years. The student body, both past and present, has included a management consultant, an author, an HIV/AIDS health worker, a banker, a financial services consultant, a university administrator, a street pastor, a teacher, a stained-glass conservationist, an engineer, a retired airline pilot, and clergy from a wide range of Christian traditions.
Students have joined the programme from across the United Kingdom and around the world, including the United States, Canada, Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, the Caribbean, and many other countries. This diversity of experience, culture, and Christian tradition enriches discussion and creates a vibrant international learning community.
